‘Caring for our Kings Barton Environment’

Kings Barton Environmental Group (KBEG), a volunteer-led environmental group operating within the Kings Barton Residents Association (KBRA).

Over the past few months, we have been considering how to increase direct resident engagement in our immediate environment. Questions like, how can we, as a growing community and soon-to-be Parish, best maintain, enhance and develop the Kings Barton environment? There are certainly a number of fantastic existing environmental features, including the established and protected beech trees on the ‘Ridgeway’, the natural drainage area and adjacent Meadowside, the Community Orchard and the planted trees and open areas created as part of the development, even the swales alongside Winchester Avenue!

The question is how do this and how can we involve you, the residents who directly benefit from these spaces? There’s no doubt, there will be people living in Kings Barton who not only have an interest in this and, if able, feel they could directly or indirectly contribute in some way. In addition, there may be those who have work or academic experience related to the environment who could provide much-appreciated support, input and guidance.

If you think this is you, then we want to hear from you!

“KBEG has been established to promote environmental stewardship, biodiversity enhancement and sustainable management of Kings Barton’s shared environmental assets on behalf of current and future residents.”

Your input, in any form whatsoever, would be incredibly appreciated and we are now open to expressions of interest!

What the Kings Barton Environmental Group (KBEG) will be doing:

  1. Environmental Assurance

  2. Stewardship

  3. Enhancement

  4. Community Activities

Examples of volunteer-led activities include the upcoming litter pick, a site-wide tree survey, bird and wildlife surveys, including bats, photograph competitions

and nature events in the Community centre! More details will be provided through the KBRA website and social channels in due course.

Note that KBEG, is currently engaged with local authorities in grant applications and would love to know of any further funding opportunities you may be aware of.

In the meantime, if you have any suggestions or want to express an interest in supporting KBEG please get in touch with Rich McLoughlin via kingsbartonra@gmail.com
